Statewide Property Values Up 3.0% for 2016

Preliminary Figures Show Statewide Totals Still Trail Pre-Recession Peak

The total value of taxable Wisconsin properties rose a modest 3.0% this year to $505.1 billion. However, they have still not reached their pre-recession peak recorded in 2008. This is the key finding from a Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) analysis of preliminary “equalized value” figures released by the state Department of Revenue (DOR).

Wisconsin taxes 9th highest nationally

U.S. Census figures released Wednesday show that state-local taxes in Wisconsin claimed 11.7% of personal income in fiscal 2010 (2009-10), ninth highest among the states, the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) reported today. During the prior year, Wisconsin taxes claimed 11.2% of income, and were also ninth highest.

Wisconsin Business Taxes Topped $8 Billion in 2011

MADISON—The corporate income tax dominates discussion of business taxes, but it accounted for just 10% of the $8.5 billion Wisconsin businesses paid in taxes in 2011. The property tax was the single largest tax paid by businesses, generating 51% of the total. These are two key findings from “Badger State Business Taxes,” a new report from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX). Celebrating its 80th year, WISTAX is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to policy research and citizen education.
