Wisconsin Students Show Gains in Math, Reading

WISTAX Analyzes Four Years of Test Scores for 2008-09 Sixth Graders

A total of 83.3% of Wisconsin’s sixth graders were proficient or advanced on the 2008-09 reading portion of the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE). That percentage was up 2.7 points from 80.6% in 2005-06, when these same students were third graders. In math, these students gained 4.6 points, from 71.9% in 2005-06 to 76.5% in 2008-09. These are some of the findings in a new Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) report that tracks the progress of students in reading and math over four years.

Public Conservation and Recreation Lands Total 16.5% of State

WISTAX Inventories and Analyzes Public Land in Wisconsin

Over 5.7 million acres, or 16.5% of the state’s total land area, was publicly owned conservation and recreation land in 2006, according to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX). WISTAX, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to public policy research and education, based its findings on a county-by-county inventory of lands owned by federal, state, and county governments.

Wisconsin Income Taxes Rank Among Highest in Nation

WISTAX Offers Analysis of Wisconsin's Individual Income Tax

Wisconsin’s income tax claimed 3.3% of personal income in 2007, making it the 10th highest nationally among state income taxes. When compared on a per capita basis, income taxes averaged $1,137 per person, 13th highest nationally, and ahead of all neighboring states except Minnesota. These facts come from a new report from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) titled "Wisconsin’s ‘Big Two’: Income and Property Taxes."
